Discussion on Battlefront III: Ways a developer can positively use Monetization and what we want from this most Desired Game.
Hello Readers,
In the past few days I have been overwhelmed by the calls for a Battlefront III to be made, by the greater fan communities. It is my opinion, that this is a splendid Idea, and Disney and Lucasfilm would be remiss to pass up this opportunity.
However, what many fans fail to remember is the way that Battlefront II failed at Launch, due to microtransactions, and I fear that without some sort of microtransaction within the game, there isn’t a chance of us fans ever receiving the most wanted sequel to this game franchise, based solely on corporate greed.
It is for these reasons, readers, that I have decided to list my concepts for Disney, the Game Developers as well as Lucasfilm to make money off of this game.
Cosmetics
To begin, the most obvious way for Battlefront III to obtain live service post launch, would be the creation of Unique Cosmetics and skins for players to purchase to customize their characters, and play as they wish.
However unlike Battlefront II, I would recommend that they make everything more customizable.
The Developer shouldn’t just give us a full skin, but rather, each individual piece of armor, detail, emblems and colors should be customizable, not to mention details to helmets or perhaps the faces and lack of helmets players may also obtain.
For the Clones we get dozens of Customization options, possibly the most in game, and these elements can easily be added to the players image, if separated.
The challenge in fact comes with factions like The CIS, and the Empire, however there may be ways around this.
In Battlefront II a series of Paint jobs was given to the battle droids for different ways to have skins, and these ranged from Pilot, Jungle and Even the Training Droid. What if these were more customizable, different patterns, different markings, and less uniform as compared to battlefront II.
As for the Empire, there are different troopers with different specializations, from Shadow Troopers, to shock Troopers, to Shore Troopers, Scouts, to Night Troopers to the Mimban Imperial Troopers that we see in Solo A Star Wars Story, by providing players ways to purchase these helmets, armor pieces, ponchos, and color their armor as they see fit, this provides custom ways for players to play. Throw in the ability to customize the players look under their helmet from Battlefront 2015, and this provides even more options, not to mention with the likes of the Variety of Officer Uniforms, and helmets that can be chosen for this game as well.
For the Rebel Alliance, they can be made of loose characters and variety. Alien Species from across the galaxy, but what is even cooler about the rebels is the many factions that existed within the rebellion. The Partisans, The Massassi Group and Phoenix Squadron all come to mind as different factions that players may want to customize their own unique rebel around. Not to mention the use of clothing items, vests, jumpsuits, helmets, hats and accessories that players will want to use as they play as rebels.
Not to mention heroes:
Many characters in this game will be able to dawn new and exciting outfits, and the more outfits they can wear and customize the better.
For instance.
Princess Leia has over a dozen outfits from the Original Trilogy, now imagine being able to stitch different hair styles, different clothing onto Leia, perhaps she is wearing Bousch’ Pack, and belt, but also the Poncho from Endor, and the iconic buns from A New Hope. her bespin outfits, her golden bikini, fans will pay for these outfits and to customize unlike ever before.
Characters like Emperor Palpatine, have many outfits. Of course there is the iconic Black Robe, but there is the Red Robe, The Brown Robe, the Purple Robe from The Clone Wars, the iconic robes from Episodes I, II and III, as well as the hologram appearance from Rebels. Allowing players to mix and match to make their ultimate Emperor, would be interesting.
What of Characters Like Darth Vader, who have limited appearances. Give him an Anakin Skin from Operation Knight Fall, a way to change Anakin’s hair and head according to his burned appearance, and pale and blush it as they see fit. Not to mention the helmet less, the broken helmet from both Kenobi and Rebels, and the tatters and damage the player can do to his cape and armor. Perhaps even delving into the comics giving him droid arms and legs, the ability to make his breathing change as players play differently, could also be a fine feature to the game.
Every hero included with this game, should be fully customizable in appearance, and the more that is released the more people I am sure will buy, by providing a variety of heroes customization is truly where the money and where the fun begins.
Battlepasses
This next battlefront perhaps should utilize a battle pass, that grants them extra rewards for playing the game, and completing accomplishments within the game, that way it isn’t pay to win, but rather, play to win just with added bonus customizations and unlockables for actually playing the game, with a battlepass, players will spend $10-$20 to unlock new items, from Loadout Menus, auras, Emotes, as well as skins and armor, for a bundled price as they play to achieve such benefits, despite paying for it. Even better, this can be something that changes seasonally, with items for May the 4th ,Game Release Anniversaries, special dates for fans and Life Day celebrations playing a role in the battlepass.

In theory, the more variety we as players/ consumers receive in this game at launch, the more money the game can make off of cosmetics for Items. Therefore, if they need to make money to keep live service and the license to pay for itself, the game Developer should consider these factors if a Battlefront III comes to fruition.
Later this week on the gaming Blog, I will be posting my concepts for a Battlefront III, let me know your thoughts.
What do you think would be the best way for the developer to make money so we can have a battlefront III?
